Tectonic Plates

Please spend some time with this map. It is the best one I've ever seen showing the earth's plates and the activity at the edges.

The Aleutian Islands in Alaska must all be volcanic. Fascinating stuff!

Quick fire:

We have more brain cells as newborns than we will ever have again in our lives.

Airbags inflate in just 30 milliseconds.

One-fourth of your bones are in your foot.

More than 86,000 people are injured by tripping over their cats and dogs every year in the U.S.

Dogs wag their tails more to the right when they are happy, and to the left when they're frightened.

:pounding: I assumed they meant the dog’s right. We should ask the dog.

Quick fire round:

You have 50,000 to 70,000 thoughts per day.

Only female mosquitoes bite.

A car accident typically happens within three seconds of the driver being distracted.

In the US, 95% of cars have an automatic transmission. In Europe and Japan, 80% of cars have standard transmissions.

There's enough gold in the earth's core to coat its entire surface to a depth of 1.5 feet.

A bit of a digression, but this brings to mind a story I saw yesterday about an accident that was caused by the opposite of distraction: https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/20/us/car-crash-god-pennsylvania/index.html . Unfortunately, this proves that one is never safe on a road and that constant vigilance is necessary when driving.

8O I think the judge made the right decision by deeming her a threat. I've never heard of anything like that!

Crocodiles

are different from alligators in snout shape. Alligators have wider, U-shaped snouts.
Crocodiles' are more pointed and V-shaped.

Also, crocodiles are more likely to be found in salt water environments whereas
alligators favor freshwater marshes and lakes.

Crocodiles are cold-blooded and cannot generate their own heat.

No surprise, they are native to the Tropics of the Americas, Africa, Asia and Australia.

Crocodiles are carnivores, eating fish, birds, frogs, and crustaceans.

Because they do not have the ability to chew, they clamp down on their prey then swallow it whole.

Their jaws have the force of 3,700 pounds per square inch.

Crocs also swallow rocks to help with digestion and balance, and possibly to reduce their buoyancy
enabling them to dive deeper. The rocks can remain in their stomachs for years.

They live up to 75 years.

Their typical length is 7 to 20 feet, and weight 85 to 2,600 pounds.

Only those 8' long or longer are a serious threat to humans.
Smaller ones are believed to be incapable of killing an adult.

Since 1972, there have been 32 fatalities due to crocodiles.

True or false?

Sharks can walk.

More people die from falling coconuts than shark attacks.

A group of small birds is a herd.

A group of owls is called a parliament.

A group of crows is called a murder.

I know a group of crows is a murder. But without looking up the others, I sure don't know.
