I got an interesting phone call today. The caller ID came up as CenturyLink with a 602 area code. The heavily accented caller tried to get me to bring up helpme.com so that they could "upgrade my internet speed." I almost fell for it because I would love to get more than 2-3 megs. Helpme is a program which allows a remote user access to your machine...once they were on they could have had access to all of my machine. Don't fall for it!

I got the same call. She wanted to know how many internet lines I had and they "CenturyLink" could get me something better if I could do "some things" on my computer. "If you're CenturyLink" then you already know how many lines I have." She hung up.

We use the non-solicitation feature on our home CL phone. You need to call them to activate it, but it is part of your service. then it is *78 to get to features and enter pass code to get to main menu. option 2 is non-solicitation. press 1 to turn it on or off. It is great for discouraging those calls and has eliminated robocalls.
