Harvest helpers!!! Lucky you!

Maryland crab soup with a little twist. I would post a pic, but I ate it before I could get the camera set up :-)

Had the blue crabs in the freezer from when I had steamed crabs a few months ago. Made tomato based veggie soup, added crabs, shrimp, andouille sausage, more chicken stock, an onion and Tony LaCachere cajun seasoning.

BTW, that rose hip jelly looks delicious!

Fried catfish, baked potato, and brussels sprouts. I love my air fryer.

It's almost Thanksgiving again! My favorite day/meal of the year!

Is anyone cooking anything special or non-traditional this year?

I hope everyone has a wonderful meal and a day full of gratitude.

Finished shopping. Gonna have a free range turkey baked in my kitchen woodstove, keto friendly stuffing (found almond flour bread), keto friendly green bean casserole (found a recipe--no canned anything), and of course sauerkraut :-) Instead of yams/sweet potatoes, I got some butternut squash to cook in a similar manner without the marshmallows.

BTW, Safeway is selling keto friendly bread now, but it's really expensive.

Sounds like a good meal plan! Sauerkraut is non traditional for sure, but a great addition to any meal!


Over the years, I have found with gluten free bread and keto bread it is better to make dressing (cooked outside the bird) rather than stuffing (cooked inside the bird).


If you mean Ezekiel bread, they have had that for years. I personally would not consider that "keto" (but many peole do) as one slice has almost an entire day's allotment of carbs in it. And Ezekiel bread is certainly NOT gluten free.

I've not seen any other "Keto bread" at Safeway but their gluten free breads are really expensive too ($7-$9 per loaf). Natural Grocers' GF bread is usually a buck or so cheaper (but not always). And they have a MUCH better selection.

If you really want Keto bread, check out the various recipes on youtube for chaffles, they are yummy. They make a pretty good thanksgiving dressing too (but I would not try them for a stuffing).

Sauerkraut!! Yes!! I grew up with sauerkraut on Thanksgiving & Christmas and now that my d-i-l hosts the holiday meals I am always assigned sauerkraut and oyster stuffing.

??Really?? I've never heard of that, so I had to look it up. Well whatdoyouknow, it is a T-day tradition for some people, especially around Baltimore. Great tradition! I'm adding that to my menu this Thursday.

My mom always served boiled onions at Thanksgiving. I know it is popular in New England (both parents from Massachussetts) but I've not seen that dish served at Thanksgiving anywhere else. Do others consider it "traditional"?

Bobkitty's family always had creamed pearl onions at Thanksgiving so it's a regular at out house.
