Now that I switched to NG, I am wondering if I am saving any money. If you recently have had your tank filled I would appreciate it if you posted here what price you paid, what company you are with and whether or not you had a seasonal "contract" fixed price or pay as you go. Thanks! This might also help people decide what propane companies have fair prices...

My friend in Kiowa just paid 1.69 / gallon. He thought that was pretty high.

I will prepay next year -- as I just filled and paid $1.66 per gallon with Independent. Have been doing business with them for thirteen years, and I am happy with them. But wish I would have contracted for the set price last summer. Oh well.

It has gone down. Last time I called -- last month -- I was told it was $1.77 per gallon.

So far we are down more than a hundred gallons from last year at this time, as I have been supplementing with the pellet stove. But made the mistake of running a little electric "wood stove look alike", and our electric bill was up almost double what it was last year at this time. Also got an "on the counter Ice maker" last Christmas -- which I think is eating electricity like it was candy. But can't do without it now that we have gotten used to all the ice.

I guess anything is better than paying for air conditioning during the summer months, in Arizona? Which I did for three summers and we weren't even there.

Neighbor just filled up last week from MarGas at $1.76 gallon.
Keep in mind that the heat equivalency of a gallon of propane is NOT the same as the heat equivalency of a "ccf" of natural gas. The generally recognized heat given by a gallon of propane is 91,600 Btu's while the heat from a "ccf" of natural gas is 100,000 Btu's (assuming 100% efficiency of the appliance, which is of course not the case). The relationship holds though so that propane at $1.76 gives an equivalent heating value to natural gas priced at about $1.92/ccf. So if you're on natural gas and the cost per ccf is less than about $1.90, you're in reasonable shape relative to those of us still using propane.

Now could you translate that into everyday "Bailey language?" Maybe its the wine I had tonight?

Am I paying to much or not?

Misskate, it just depends on what you're paying for natural gas right now. If you're paying less than $1.92 per billing unit (ccf) then you're in good shape. If you want to PM me with your price per billing unit I can help unravel it for you. Suspect that you're in good shape though.

Rak, here are figures off my most recent bill:

Metered Units: 4
Pressure Adjustment Factor: 1
Actual CCF Usage: 4
BTU Correction Factor 0.9927
Pressure Correction: 0.7563
Therms Used: 3.0031
Amount for Gas Usage: 3.48

There's a box at the bottom, "Components of a Gas Bill", that says Total Cost Per Therm is $1.16.

Of course we'd have to factor in the $10 monthly Facility Charge to get a true look at our cost.
