What can be done to improve it?

Several speed bumps before bottom of hill.
No one ignores those! Including large trucks. Would annoy the heck out of me, but cheap and worth it...if it slowed them before curve. |

Can't happen. Too dangerous. And can't snowplow over them. You'd have cars launching into the river! Fun sight, but... |

A speed bump won’t stop the momentum of a loaded semi downhill on that grade, they would likely help create more destruction by destabilizing each axle that went over them, further impeding a driver desperately trying to correct his rig or minimize the carnage.
The actual road, grade, curve needs to be altered. Will that happen? Probably not soon. Will they install barriers to keep the carnage out of the river and on its own side of the highway. Maybe. To be blunt, the body count isn’t high enough yet for them to do anything except call a meeting, do a study, blah blah blah…. |

I think the best would be to have 2 downhill lanes from Crow Hill all the way through the curve (1 lane presently) and all trucks would have to be in right lane 30MPH max, 20 at the curve. I don't see a runaway truck lane or completely redesigning the hill/curve as practical. |

Construct a big flyover ramp overlooking Bailey. Exit off Crow Hill and join 285 by the police station. It'll be big and beautiful! And it can be decorated in Christmas lights shining over the town. What a holiday extravaganza!

Love the flyover!
![]() The main words are slow dowwwwn. How do we accomplish that, so it actually works? Speed bumps was meant to be funny, You have no choice but to slow down, but you can’t use them there. If I was driving a large truck I would definitely be going very slow, Low gear, for that hill. But the trucks I see are flying, so centrifugal force means nothing to them. I hope something will actually work there but will admit I have no great ideas. Not a lot of room to improve the road. |

They want to remove all the lights on 285 as it is a highway so if you think it is bad now just wait not to mention the merge lanes they are purposing at the top of Crowhill are very short and not adequate for the traffic we get on the weekends during the summer.
This is an issue with the Semi's so short of making a lane for them that requires them to be at lower speeds that can be radared anything purposed will be a bandaid. |

How about educating the truck drivers. First sign before Loaf and Jug. Steep grade and sharp curves 1 mile ahead. Trucks use low gear. Max speed over 25,000 pounds 25 mph. Another at the top of Crow Hill. Signs down Crow Hill to truck drivers. Dont be fooled, 1 more mile of steep grades and sharp curves. Trucks use low gear. Trucks over 25,000 pounds max speed 25mph. Before you all jump on me I have a CDL and have had for 30 years. Ask a driver at a truck stop about Crow Hill in Bailey. 90% have never heard of it and dont know where it is. Cheapest quick correction is to inform the drivers of the danger and then enforce truck speed limits. Its all about education and information. If you have a problem following a truck going 25 mph down Crow Hill just leave 5 minutes earlier.

Well heck if we're going to do that let's just go all out and build a suspension bridge from the top of Crow Hill to the top of Kenosha pass! Just think of all the bungee jump and zip line opportunities you could add on to that. |
