Local marmot predicts that more winter is on the way

Quote:
Flatiron Freddy is Boulder’s top-hat-wearing stuffed marmot. On Groundhog Day, he made his own prediction on whether we will see more winter.

According to the City of Boulder, this quirky and unique tradition has been in Boulder for more than 10 years.

Thanks to the help of Open Space and Mountain Parks rangers, Freddy did see his shadow just like Phil did. This means there will be six more weeks of winter.

Since we have winter through April or sometimes mid-May, if Flatiron Freddy did not predict 6 more weeks of winter, ever, he would always be wrong.

I distinctly recall a very big snow dump here in early June 2022…

That's true. Good thing he didn't predict 6 months, I would almost have believed that. Remember the summer when Mount Pinatubo erupted in 1991?

I had 40 inches of snow May 23-24-25th last year. I only remember because my late Golden had cancer surgery the following Monday morning and I needed to board him the previous Friday morning to ensure he was at the Vet for his surgery. I could not pick him up until Tuesday because the roads were still bad...

Flatiron Freddy. I've never put much stock in a dead, stuffed marmot flying on a wire into a crowd of Boulder "believers."

Flatiron Freddy is DEAD? Not much of a predictor then.

I remember that year very well! An hour shower every afternoon and wildflowers everywhere. It was gorgeous here on the flip side of such a horrendous disaster 8,000 miles away.

What?! He's dead, stuffed and flies on a wire? How would he be able to balance his weight without feeling in his feet?
