In the last 12 hours, as of 6:15am, there have been 100 earthquakes in Turkey ranging from 4.0 to 7.8 in magnitude. That includes five in the >6.0 range.

1,500 confirmed deaths.

I've been tracking quakes and volcanos for the last 11 months. This is the first time I've seen this many of this magnitude.

-->Edited to update maps as of 8:00am. Death toll stands at 1,900.

The death toll will rise significantly. With so many buildings collapsed, the clock is ticking for them to find those who are still alive under the rubble.

In the second map, the faint red circles show that tremors were felt as far away as Germany and most of the Arabic Pennisula.

Thousands of buildings were toppled. More than 6,400 people have been rescued. 2,800 deaths have been confirmed.

3,800 confirmed dead in Turkey and the northwest corner of Syria where the damage occurred in that war-torn country is apparently held by Jihadis. That makes it even more complicated to send aid. I'm sure the death count is going to soar.

5,000 this morning. Im surprised it's not a lot higher. They won't know how many are missing for days, probably. I hope they have plenty of trained dogs on the job.

Aftershocks are at 400, some in the 4 and 5 magnitude range. That's large enough to be the last straw for more structures to collapse.

This is the worst earthquake there in 80 years.

Just so sad, such a huge area. People built some of the newer structures to code hoping they could handle the stress but many are older buildings.
With that significant of an earthquake I imagine some new ones fell too. I hope they get all the assistance they need. It sounds like many countries are joining in to help.

My family and I lived in Turkey for two and half years. Yes, we experienced a "big one", but nothing of this recent magnitude. I am crying for people of Turkey and Syria.
