8O What does it look like in the water?

This iteration of the USS Independence (LCS-2) is a littoral combat ship (not a battleship) and was decommissioned in 2021., Previous use of the name referred to a Forrestal class air-craft carrier (CV/CVA-62) post WWII, CVL-22 (light aircraft carrier) during the WWII era, and as the first ship-of-the-line (battleship) commissioned by the US Navy in 1814, later razed to a single covered deck frigate around 1836.

The trimaran design allows for a larger flight deck and greater stability at high speeds (40+ knots). The ship was designed to support amphibious landings, mine sweeping and associated duties, but it wasn't intended to engage warships. IIRC the crew of the ship numbered fewer than 50 sailors, but I'm not positive about that point. I remember that this ship caused quite a stir during the Bush presidency due to cost overruns and difficulties during sea trials . . . a difficult entry into service, but she served well for the decade or so she was a commissioned vessel.

Okay, with that, I found a (admittedly hyped up) video of it.

Look at the wake left behind! Oh man, I could watch fluid dynamics all day long. The people who can actually calculate this stuff boggle my mind.
