i am considering getting a compost pot for my kitchen to keep things a little neater rather than the open pot i have been using
my neighbor puts things in my outside bin sometimes in green bags that are supposed to compose but never do in our dry climate
what bag inserts should i look for that really will decompose?
suggestions appreciated...j

I never bother with bags. I simply gather scraps and take them out after each meal.

From what I have read, most compostable bags are designed for municipal composting which use a very high temperature compost process (165F). They are not suitable for backyard composting or bins since they will not reach the temperatures required for the bags to breakdown.

I don't use bags either. A waste of money for minimal convenience, my opinion.

I have a kitchen compost bucket but have found in the past that it attracts fungus gnats. I now keep the bucket on the deck and use a bowl in the kitchen which I dump in the bucket each evening. The bucket then gets taken to the garden to be dump in my tumblers. No more gnats in the house.
