Re: Jeffco Sheriff's Office Launches Smart911

Jefferson County, Co. – Sheriff Mink announced today that his office has implemented Smart911 to enhance delivery of 911 emergency services for citizens in Jefferson County. Currently, when 911 dispatchers receive a call, only a phone number and minimal levels of location data are displayed. With Smart911, citizens can create a secure Safety Profile online consisting of additional data about themselves and family members. The data is automatically displayed to 911 call takers during emergency calls, resulting in much greater effectiveness and efficiency during a crisis.

“This service provides far richer information than is currently available and will give the call taker a more complete understanding of the situation at hand,” Jefferson County Sheriff Ted Mink said. “The arrival of Smart911 demonstrates our commitment to provide the community with the highest level of service possible.”

Smart911 is a nationwide service that is entirely private, secure and free of charge to citizens. Paid for by the Jefferson County 911 Authority Board, citizens can create a safety profile at www.Smart911.com by entering vital data they want made available about themselves and family members, their residence and even pets. This can include data on medical conditions, disabilities and/or special needs, children’s photos, home addresses of cell phone callers, floor plans and other pertinent information. Smart911 delivers this information automatically to dispatchers, who then enable responders to be more effective because they have access to critical health and logistics information before arriving at the scene of an emergency.

For information on Smart911 and Rave Mobile Safety, go to http://www.ravemobilesafety.com/

If you register for this service, please enter only the information you are comfortable having in a national database.

Hmmm, I didn't have any problems. You may want to contact them at:

https://www.smart911.com/contact.php

and let them know you had a problem. The website tech support will need to know your operating system and browser.

I registered under CodeRed from the Sheriff's site. It will call and send texts to your phone.

Check out the crime map -- very cool.

FYI - this service is nationwide, so TillerBee, you might want to consider revising the topic title. I almost didn't sign up because I'm in Park County, but then discovered it's nationwide.

And wthattny: this service is not just for reverse notifications, you really should check it out. It could save your life in an emergency (and that of your loved ones/pets). You enter info on all residents and animals (all optional, of course) - and can even include photos so the emergency responders can identify upon entering if you are not there or conscious.

Just wondering why the site is not a secure site when signing up.

The https has a red slash through it.

It's kind of a minor security thing, it is still a SSL/encrypted site, but Google is trying to prod people into upgrading their SSL certificates by crossing out the 'https'. The new SHA2 SSL's make it a lot harder for someone to impersonate the site but its really only a concern if you are using public wifi and signing into important things like online banking, which is a horrible idea to begin with anyway.
